6:30 PM

Haleakala Visitor Center

Come explore the natural beauty of the Haleakala Wilderness Area by moonlight.

We will explore the natural features of the moon, and how the moon inspired legends and culture.  Park Staff of Haleakala National Park will lead a 4 hour, 5 mile strenuous hike from Sliding Sands to Ka Lu'u o Ka 'O'o by moonlight on Thursday, August 6th and also on Friday, August 7th.

Be prepared for cold weather (40 degrees Fahrenheit) by wearing layered clothing, hat and sturdy shoes.  Bring a snack, water, hot beverage recommended, small flashlight and binoculars.

Meet at Haleakala Visitor Center (near the summit) no later than 6:30 pm.  The hike is free and open to the public; however, the $10.00 per vehicle entrance fee into the park may be charged.
